Barry Richards is considered to be one of South Africa’s most successful cricketers, regarded by many cricket experts as one of the greatest post world war two batsmen. He was also the only South African player to be selected by Sir Donald Bradman in his all-time 11 team. Sir Donald Bradman is without a doubt the greatest player ever in our sport so this was an incredible honour.

Known as the man who made batting look easy, nine hundred runs before lunch and 1000 runs in a season 15 times in first-class cricket add to his legend. Barry played just four Tests and the cricket world is poorer for it. They were all in 1969-70 against Australia, and Richards made the most of his limited time in the limelight.

Barry was also the CEO of Queensland cricket for 10 years, in what was the most successful period in their history. He was involved in the development of both the Allan Border and Gabba ovals as well as being the driver naming the Queensland side the 'Bulls' - which was a first anywhere in the world. A talent of such enormous stature thrilling spectators with his nimble, aggressive strokeplay for Hampshire, Natal and South Australia, and in Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket.

Barry Richards established the Cricket Bursary at Oakhill, a private school at Knysna, South Africa. With a total amount targeted to be raised in Australia of $50, 000 AUD which will fund one Barry Richards Bursary student for five years,  providing  a top education to underprivileged, hardworking and talented South African students who would not otherwise receive such opportunity.
