J.A. Heyman Benefit Fund
Established under the Will of the late Joseph Alexander Heyman, who passed away on 19 September 1939
Joseph Alexander Heyman was a native of Copenhagen, Denmark and lived in the USA before eventually settling in Victoria in 1924, establishing a successful business in the manufacture of Art Metal Furnishings. During his lifetime, he enriched Victoria with his Art and philanthropic ventures. He was a member of the Danish Club, and the Order of Dannebrog was conferred on him by King Christian of Denmark in 1939.
Under his Will, Mr Heyman established a Charitable Trust Fund named the J.A. Heyman Benefit. The Trust was established for the purposes of:
“Providing relief of distress or poverty among persons of Danish birth, descent or lineage who are resident in Australia and in giving help to beneficiaries in need of education, vocational or other training or help to start in a trade or profession, or in literary pursuits”.
The Trust is administered by the Trustee, Australian Executor Trustees Limited, with the assistance of an external Board of Advisors, in accordance with the instructions in Mr Heyman’s Will.
