Loneliness Awareness Week 3-9 August
1 in 2 people living in Australia are lonely and/or socially isolated. It’s one of the most common human experiences, yet one of the least talked about. The good news is that our community is full of connectors – people who bring others together, make newcomers feel welcome and keep the social fabric of our neighbourhood alive.
Loneliness Awareness Week, held annually in the first week of August, is Australia’s national campaign shining a spotlight on the shared experience of loneliness and calling on all Australians, including individuals, communities, workplaces, education, and government, to take action to reduce loneliness and create more opportunities for meaningful social connections.
"Connection grows in the spaces and opportunities we intentionally create for one another"
This year’s theme, Make Room for Connection, celebrates the everyday ways people living in Australia are making room for connection and shines a spotlight on those who are, or want to be, connectors in their communities, workplaces, schools and neighbourhoods.
Find out how you can start with the circles, spaces and interests you already have. Together, we can make Australia a little less lonely.
