Our thoughts are with those impacted by flooding across Australia – and the reports of more to come. There are ways you can help.

The for-purpose sector has ramped up its efforts to support communities impacted by the current crises.  A number of fundraising appeals have been launched to support organisations working on the ground.   

It is not an exhaustive list but the below organisations are well known to Equity Trustees. We invite you to undertake your own research to determine if their purpose and initiatives are aligned with your personal values and giving.

We have focused on those organisations that have DGR1 endorsement but there are many others which you can donate that do not offer a tax deduction.

Natural Disaster Recovery

Australian Red Cross 
This is a year-round appeal, supporting the Red Cross emergency response teams.

Australian Volunteer Support Trust
Established following the summer bushfires of 2019, the Australian Volunteer Support Trust (managed by Equity Trustees) assists the families of any recognised emergency services volunteer in Australia who tragically loses their life through their volunteer work when responding to a disaster.

BlazeAid
A volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods.

Bohollow Wildlife Shelter 
Accepting donations to help fund its 24/7 wildlife rescue service and ensure injured animals are cared for.  Food, hay, bird seed, towels and blankets are also welcomed.

Community Rebuilding Trust
Established following the summer bushfires of 2019, the Community Rebuilding Trust (managed by Equity Trustees), supports the rebuilding and re-establishing efforts of disaster affected Australian communities.

FareShare
FareShare rescues surplus food and cooks free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough.  Locations in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Foodbank
Foodbank is the largest hunger relief charity in Australia. They are the pantry to the charity sector, linking surplus food and groceries to people in need. VIC, QLD and NSW / ACT

Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal (FRRR)
FRRR has supported communities affected by natural disasters since 2006. They provide grants to local not-for-profits and community groups for community-led recovery and resilience.

GIVIT
GIVIT is the smart way to give to support recovery after devastating storms and flooding across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.  When you give money to a GIVIT appeal 100% of the money received goes to purchasing items that are needed.

Good360
Good360 repurposes surplus brand new goods and directs them to the Australians who need them most.  Cash donations are critical as they allow Good360 to get the right goods, to the right people, at the right time, through all stages of disaster.

Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project – GV Cares
GV Cares is a Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project initiative. Activated in times of crisis to support the community's most vulnerable people. As an established local organisation, they are well-placed to support those most in need.  Getting food to impacted community members is their current priority.

Northern Rivers Community Foundation
Donations to the Resilience and Regeneration Fund will support charities to meet increasing demands on their services as they work together to recover from crises and build resilience within the community.  The Foundation is still seeking support to help the Northern Rivers communities recover from the devastating floods of March 2022.

Orange Sky Laundry
Orange Sky vans provide laundry facilities as well as a vital place for connection and conversation.  Currently on the ground in Victoria.

Rural Aid 
Rural Aid provides critical support to farmers affected by natural disaster.

Sikh Volunteers Australia
Sikh Volunteers Australia focus on reducing distress in the community by providing free food to disadvantaged and needy individuals and families.   The team were on the ground during the NSW and QLD floods in March 2022, and are currently in Central Victoria.

St Vincent De Paul Society
 Supporting communities with food and essentials, emergency housing and clothing.

 The Salvation Army
After the initial emergency response phase, The Salvation Army will remain in communities for however long it takes to ensure they are supported practically, as well as emotionally, through the recovery and rebuild phases.

Wildlife Victoria
Donation towards Wildlife Victoria’s Emergency Rescue Service, to keep phone lines staffed 24/7, support Travelling Vets responding in field, and also help support wildlife rescue volunteers across the state.
