Beyond Blue working with the community to improve mental health and prevent suicide.

As one of Australia’s most well-recognised mental health organisations, Beyond Blue connects thousands of people across the country to the mental health support they need.
 
Beyond Blue is driven by its mission to work with the community to improve mental health and prevent suicide. Their ultimate aim is for all people in Australia to achieve their best possible mental health.
 
Marking their 20th anniversary, Beyond Blue released their new strategy in October 2020. The Beyond 2020 Strategy outlines a roadmap to achieving the vision for a ‘Big Blue Door’ that provides accessible, personalised, secure and connected mental health support for every person in Australia. 

Australia’s mental health system is complex but getting help shouldn’t be. The Big Blue Door initiative aims to establish a new community experience platform that connects people with the mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention services and supports they need. 

The work will be co-designed with the community to improve the organisation’s ability to provide the right information, for the right person, at the right time – whatever stage they might be at in their mental health journey.  This improved online platform will make it easier for people to find what they need, whether that’s offered by Beyond Blue or other mental health providers.
 
 Developed over three years, it will not only provide a gateway for people in Australia to access support for their mental wellbeing, it will also help overcome barriers that currently prevent and limit access to support.
 
These barriers include:

• Bridging gaps in the current mental health system for low-intensity support 
• Helping people navigate a complex network of services
• Ensuring a ‘person-centred’ approach to mental health.
 
Beyond Blue recognises that the Big Blue Door vision cannot be achieved alone and its Beyond 2020 strategy has a focus on developing partnerships to improve impact.
 
While working closely with the community and engaging those with lived experience at every stage of the project, they will also partner with other mental health organisations and philanthropists.
 
Together through these collaborations, the Big Blue Door can help transform how mental health support is experienced across Australia.
